Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What degree of slope will the Powrtouch move a caravan up hill?
A. The Powrtouch is guaranteed to move a single axle van, laden weight 1,500kg up a 1 in 4 slope and a twin axle caravan with laden weight of 1,200kg up a 1 in 4 slope on a solid surface such as concrete or bitumen. It will obviously move anything under his weight up varying degrees of slope. The All Wheel Drive Version will move a twin axle caravan with laden weight of 1,800kg up a 1 in 4 slope.
Q. How much does the Powrtouch weigh?
A. Approximately 37kg.

Q. What sort of battery do I need for the Powrtouch?
A. We recommend a 100A battery, preferably deep cycle.

Q. Will the mover cope with different types of terrain?
A. The Powrtouch mover will cope with the majority of terrains with no problems as it drives the wheels of the caravan itself. The Powrhitch and Powrwheel, however, are more effective on hard ground although they can be purchased with off road tyres if required.

Q. Do the rollers from the Powrtouch cause additional wear to the caravan tyres?
A. No. They are made of a non-abrasive material.

Q. Is the Powrtouch unit weather proofed?
A. Yes, it will withstand typical weather and road conditions. Although we do recommend basic maintenance every 3 - 6 months.

Q. How safe is the Powrtouch?
A. The Powrtouch system has a soft start to limit additional stress on your caravan and provide you with more manoeuvrability. The electronics automatically switch off after a short time, placing less strain on you caravan electrics and providing additional security. The handset has a special built in safety device, making to difficult to switch on accidentally. An umbilical cord is also provided, so if your handset battery runs out, on site, you can still manoeuvre you caravan with the Powrtouch.

Q. How secure is the Powrtouch when it is fitted?
A. The Powrtouch Unit is clamped to the chassis of the caravan, the motor cables are fed to the electronics which is housed inside the caravan. The unit is designed to stay under the caravan even when moving and is very secure. It can also withstand stones, water etc while on the road.

Q. How easy is it to move on to the next caravan I purchase?
A. A Powrtouch unit takes approximately 3 hours to fit and units can be easily moved from one caravan to another. Although you cannot move a single axle Powrtouch to a twin axle caravan and vice-versa, some makes of caravans may also have different chassis types so additional plates may be required.

Q. Where do I need to take the caravan to have the unit fitted?
A. ACR Caravan Repairs near Sydney can fit the unit for you. If you are interstate you may wish to talk to your local caravan repairer or local mechanic. The unit is also suitable for self installation if you have some mechanical knowledge - installation instructions are provided and you can contact ACR Caravan Repairs by telephone to answer any questions if required.

Q. What is the difference between the English and Australian Powrtouch?
A. The models are all manufactured by the same company - Powrwheel Ltd in England and are very similar in their capabilities. However, the English version is designed for English caravans which have a different chassis from Australian vans. The Australian version has been designed to fit our vans.
